Abstract

Among the main threats to a sustainable future is the depletion of drinking water resources. Cities, as settlements with a dense population structure, are the settlement areas that show the most fragile features in the depletion of resources. In this regard, water scarcity is among the biggest risks facing local governments. Among the risk management policies of local governments are waste water recovery and water management. Today, various ecological city models are being developed for the sake of a sustainable future. Among these models, the sponge city is the city model based on water recycling. Sponge city is a city which designed based on the efficient and usable collection of rain water with various techniques without mixing with polluted water and its use for various requirements of urban life. China has started to implement sponge city models as ecologically sustainable development policy. This study aims to examine the water recycling policies of sponge cities. In this context, sample applications from the sponge cities of China were examined with the literature research method
