Abstract

The waste problem is becoming an important danger in today's consumer society. Considering that most consumer products are packaged and most of the materials used are plastic-based, it is seen how big the danger is. A large part of the packaging products are PET or PETE (Polyethylene terephthalate), which has a significant weight in waste formation. It is seen that it is used in the packaging of products with heavy consumption such as drinking water, soft drinks, fruit juices, food packaging, and cleaning products. For this reason, recycling the raw material for secondary use without turning the packages produced with PET into the garbage is a method used to reduce the formation of waste. At this point, design is a concept that supports the secondary use of material. In this study, besides the recycling process in the recycling of PET packaging, the importance and direction of design will be discussed, and the impact of design on waste management with recycling (re-cycle) and up-cycle methods will be examined. In addition to the literature research, sample design and transformation studies will be examined and the effective structure of the design in PET transformation will be evaluated.
